Tracking is the ability and awareness to recognize signs and deduce something from them that will aid in the pursuit of a particular goal.
Trackers identify, interpret, follow and find.
Just like learning the letters of the alphabet to construct words, trackers learn the tracks and signs of species within their environment. By using letters to construct words, we create meaningful elements of speech or text. Similarly, trackers use a sequence of tracks to interpret activity and create meaningful outcomes.
It’s the ‘sentences’ and ‘paragraphs’ of tracking that allow a tracker to follow and find animals. Furthermore, having an intimate knowledge of the creatures that occupy a particular landscape, and understanding the landscape itself, provides trackers with a unique ‘ecological literacy’.
We invite any individual who endeavours to hone their ‘Environmental literacy’ skills and become more situationally aware, to join us in this pursuit and shared passion. You will ultimately feel more at home in your natural environment.
Lowveld Trails Co. works according to the CyberTracker structure and standards.
This course focuses on the identification and interpretation of the tracks and signs left behind by the incredible diversity of wildlife in the South African Lowveld.
During this experience the focus will be on the ability to follow the trail of an animal, anticipate where the trail is going, find the animal and approach the animal, if the situation permits.
